After the College Entrance Examination#
Today is the second day of the college entrance examination, and also the last day, at least for some people. After the college entrance examination, you may have many things you want to do, such as going to an internet cafe to play games, having a meal with classmates, confessing to the girl you like, or traveling, etc. You can do all these things now. However, once the desires that have been suppressed for three years are released, it is easy for people to indulge themselves. Just like every year, I can see high school students who have finished the exam staying up all night playing games in internet cafes and suddenly dying after several hours. If we say that the college entrance examination is divided into two steps, then finishing the exam is just completing the first step. There are still many things waiting for you to do. It's okay to relax, but please don't indulge yourself excessively.
College Major Choices#
For me, the college entrance examination is already something from many years ago. Even if it's just a few years, some things have changed compared to the past, especially when it comes to choosing a college major. Whenever relatives' children ask me how to choose a college major, I don't know how to answer because I don't know if the child has their own interests or ideal direction. I may also need to understand some precautions for filling out college major choices in the local area and what new regulations have been added. Most parents are not aware of these contents, or they are more concerned about scores and neglect the importance of choosing a major. Many students also think this way: as long as my scores are high, I can choose any school and major. The reality is like this, but I have also encountered some classmates from high school who regretted their choices because they were deceived by the names of the school or major. At that time, they often came to me to complain. Since your scores are already good enough, why not spend more effort on choosing a major? Why waste the efforts of your three years in high school?
For students who don't have top scores, they need to weigh the pros and cons more. We had a saying back then: "Reach, Stable, and Safety". "Reach" means that when the scores are close, you can try to apply to your desired school. "Stable" means referring to the previous years' application situation to make a choice. It may be difficult to reach your desired school, but at least it won't be too bad. "Safety" means having a backup plan. The school may be average, but your scores guarantee that you can get admitted.
As for the question of repeating a year, it depends on your own situation and your family's opinion. This process itself is also extremely difficult to endure.
A New Starting Point#
After the college entrance examination, college life is just around the corner. The most common phrase we heard during the three years of high school was: "You will have an easy life once you go to college." Is it really true? Actually, it's not. You will still be busy in college. Of course, how busy you are depends on how much you arrange for yourself. Unlike high school, college offers you many choices, whether it's in terms of studying or living. Every choice you make will directly affect your learning and life. In college, you don't have to stick to learning knowledge from textbooks only. You can go to the library to find the materials you need, and you will have the time for it. You don't have to face the suffocating tactic of solving endless practice questions anymore. Those days have become a thing of the past. Your weekends are free, and you can do whatever you want. More freedom also means more responsibility. You have to be responsible for yourself. You no longer have teachers constantly monitoring your learning. Being away from home, the help from your parents will also be reduced. I don't want to say what kind of life a college student should have. I just feel that if you just want to smoothly go through your college years, then you just need to attend classes well and take exams seriously. If you have bigger dreams, then after the college entrance examination is definitely not the end, but a new starting point in your life.
